hi all ... nice to meet you guys

I'm quite new in a forklift world and it's nice to know out there is this type of community and a great file manager :)

I used to be heavy total commander user on windows platform. as far as I'm concerned forklift is the best file manager I've seen on osx. right now I'm on a trial version and I have one issue which stops me from buying full version. here is the story ...

kick me for this if I'm wrong, but how can I switch from one HDD partition (or one external HDD/flash drive/DVD rom) to another using keys only (not by selecting device from pane on left with a mouse ?) since I remember it used to be windows standard recognized as alt-F1 (left pane, drive choice) alt F2 (right pane, drive choice) is this feature hidden somewhere or maybe it is not implemented yet ? if so, how big are chances to do so ?

... and two small features that may be useful.
1.TC on winXP, uses standard system viewer to display contents of files. the thing is, it will show you contents of the file bit-by-bit in ASCII/HEX mode, no matter if the file is executable, video or music stream type. can't spot something like this on osx. is there a chance to have this kind of file viewer built in forklift ?
2. is there a chance for creating copy/move queuing mode in FL ? the best solution I've ever seen was in TC on windows. it would be nice to have the same here.

thanks

Hello and welcome cedyn :)

Well, the TC style ALT-F1 for selecting devices will not be implemented, at least not as such (ForkLift will continue to behave in most things like Finder does).
But there is a workaround, of course.
You can set any keyboard shortcuts to the items stored in your Favorites group, so if you put your devices first into the Favorites, then you'll be able to assign keyboard shortcuts to these in ForkLift > Preferences > Shortcuts. (you could then put these Favorites in a separate Fav group, so they don't clutter your real Favorites list).

As for the features:
1. QuickLook is the thing to view files (space in ForkLift). To view the file in ASCII/HEX mode, you can use TextWrangler for instance, and use Open with.. in ForkLift.
2. A really great file queue will be implemented in ForkLift as soon as we're done with directory synchronization and a couple of other stuff we want to do first.

Have a great day
