Hi there,

I'm about a month into owning a Mac, have been a pc user for 15 years and right now still feel a lot like a fish out of water when it comes to figuring out my Mac and Mac programs. So, if I sound like an idiot .. I ~am~ a Mac idiot and willing to admit it.

I have just found and downloaded the trial version of ForkLift. I have been pretty much desperate to find an ftp program that works for me. I was literally ~amazed~ when ForkLift opened and visions of my old familiar Windows danced in my head <g> Finally something that looked like I might be able to figure it out w/o to much trouble!

Anyway - on to business ... it seems like the only way to upload a file from my computer to the server is to click the "Copy To" button. I find this rather inconvenient. Is there another way to do this so I don't have to slide my mouse around the screen? I tried several ways I used in the (Windows) past shearly out of force of habit and the drop down menu doesn't give a shortcut.

I'm wondering what "Create Bucket" is or does? I did a search in the ForkLift Help files and this forum and came up empty.

Saving Connections (Favorites?): Is there no way to save a site so that when I click it, it opens to the actual local folder on my computer & the remote connection's appropriate corresponding folder simultaneously? My sites are in a Shared folder as I also have Parallels/WinXP installed so it's a ways down there to get to. All this drilling down is not very efficient for me.

I found the Flip Pane option which I was happy to see as ForkLift opens opposite of what I'm used to and prefer. However, this setting doesn't seem to "stick" as each time I open it I have to do the Flip Pane again.

Your help would be greatly appreciated. I really need a good ftp program and this looks to be the most promising yet if I can just get things figured out. Thank you.

Hello and welcome :)

First of all, as a Windows user, you would probably want to set ForkLift's default keybinding set to the 'commander' keybinding set. This will enable F5 for copy, F6 for move, F7 for new folder, etc...

This you can set in ForkLift > Preferences > Shortcuts
The set contains an approximation of the commander keyboard control, but you can also set your own shortcuts for each file command or whatever.

Create Bucket is a tool used on Amazon S3 accounts. S3 uses the term bucket for an approximation of a folder, and creating these was implemented as a separate tool.

When you create/save a new connection/favorite (or editing an existing Favorite), you can set a Local Path on the Options tab of the Connect panel. This will open the corresponding remote and local folders simultaneously in the two panes.

I will get the issue of making flip pane settings stick onto our todo list.

Have a great day

I have been using this for the past few hours and have figured out a few things. The Commander thing I hadn't - thank you!

Getting the flip pane to stick would be greatly appreciated!

This program is working well for me now that I'm learning my way around. I think you got a paying customer up and coming. Hallelujah! An ftp program that WORKS for me! I want a few more days to play first!

Hi Again,

Well, I'm sold on ForkLift. I purchased today and have passed the word along to my fellow design list members to have a look at the program for themselves.

The commander thing works like a charm! Thank you for that.

Anyway I could use a bit more help. I've tried in vain many times to set the path in the Options and every time ForkLift tells me it can't be found. What is the proper way to do this?

Thanks,
Deb

You can enter the Local Path in two ways:

eg, to open folder EXAMPLE in your Documents:

/users/yourusernamehere/Documents/EXAMPLE

or

~/Documents/EXAMPLE

both will work.

Hello again,

Wondering first if an update w/the flip pane setting might be upcoming soon?

and a little more for your feature request list - if these options are already in place, I must be missing them ...

1) Way to add favorite folders so that favorites can be organized into these folders?

2) Way to alphabetize the favorites, mine all seem to load in the order of when the accounts were created.

Thanks!
MC
