Moving folder locally only copies the folder, doesn't delete it after copying.

Hi Yevgeny,
Yes, this is a know bug that we've been dragging along for a while: the bug is in the OS X API we use, so there's really nothing we can do here, except wait for an OS X update that will fix it.
Incidentally, the bug occurs when moving items across volumes (remote or local).

Csaba,
I don't want to disagree with You. But this annoying thing is happening only to Forklift. It's not happening in muCommander, Disk Order etc.
You are forcing me to use muCommander because of this.

By the way, since I cannot find out how to open a new thread, how do You permanently delete a file in ver. 1.2?
In 1.5.1 I know, but it's not functioning in 1.2.

Csaba, thank you for the answer.
Since I cannot find out how to open a new thread
After a small investigation I found this option within 'Forum Tools' menu (log into one of the forums; 'Forum Tools' are above 'Last Post' table header).

Yeah, muCommander and Directory opus (and possibly a number of other file managers) do not use the OSX API, and have their own implementations of move. ForkLift does not.
However, using the APIs does have great advantages, so we will not start on a custom implementation unless we really must. But we have been assured that the bug will be fixed, so we just wait...

I don't agree with that. FL has a "copy" command and a "delete" command. You could bypass this OS X bug by simply chaining both commands.
What's really important is to have the issue fixed one way or another to satisfy your clients, not debate who's to blame.
This command is vital for people like me that download large files at work, then transfer them at home using removable USB disks.
Of course, you might object that I could copy then delete the file myself, but 1) why should I? in this case, the Finder does a better job than FL, and 2) the "delete" command still does not work on my FAT32 external drive (but I guess I'll post a separate topic on that)

Dear All,
We have been running this move issue around in our heads for some time, but now, we are pretty decided not to touch this. Sorry guys.
Why? First, because we do not believe it is a critical thing. I agree it is annoying, but, well, 'move' across volumes is basically an extra service that OS X offers.
Secondly, any coding we do on this front now will have to be redone when Apple fixes the api, and we simply feel it's more trouble than it's worth.
We really do believe this issue will be resolved on the short term by Apple's engineers, and we ask you for a little more patience.
If no fix comes, and none is seen to be coming, we will get back to this.

Hi Csaba,
10.5.3 is out and it looks like nothing has been done to "fix" this problem. How long should we wait?
Cheers

How do you drag & drop folders into other folders....? Seems like such a basic, standard thing to do to move folders around, but instead I'm just selecting multiple folders...
UPDATE: Okay, I got it. You have to drag to the right, before moving the folder, if you click and immediately drag upwards you will highlight multiple folders. Weird, but ok now.

Hi Guys,
It is really anoying the fact that Apple just released the 10.5.5 and the moving from different volumes bug has not been addresed. How about rconsidering to look into this issue.
Thanks for the hard work.
