It seems that someone must have asked for tagging support already but I can't find a thread on it in the feature request. Apologies if it already exists.

That said, it would be phenomenal if Forklift would have some sort of support for tagging files. Preferably something that would be compatible with apps like Leap or Tagbot using the "&mytag" convention in the Spotlight comments.

Specifically, features such as: 1) ability to add/edit/delete tags, 2) ability to search tags, 3) ability to display tags in the interface, 4) tag clouds, etc. would be amazing.

Absolutely. We do have plans to enhance the way ForkLift handles tags, in fact, we want to do some serious work here, but you should not expect anything immediate - we have a very full development schedule for the coming months.

Really, Apple should add a much more flexible public API for tagging, using the spotlight comment is pretty scruffy. Spotmeta for Tiger was cool, but is not actively developed any more...

Tom Anderson of Ironic software has been trying to push Apple on this, would be cool if more file manager/spotlight interface developers could band together and collectively try to convince Apple of the importance of robust metadata support for the future:

Hey FL guys, I would be great if you could talk to the Ironic Software dudes about this and lend your support. You will be laying the foundations for a much more solid tagging future for Forklift. I'd recommend taking at look at Leap too for some ideas on how utterly useful tagging is for file management.
