The most annoying thing about ForkLift

Though we know ForkLift is very close to perfect, still we feel, in a metaphysical way, that there are times where you wish us all to hell.

Hence this thread, where You, our Honored Customer, can post that one (and only one) major annoyance in ForkLift that sometimes makes you yearn for our blood.

It is no secret that our aim here is to be able to fix these, because we fundamentally believe that making a good software is not always about adding new and nice things, but taking away the bad.

So, let's hear it, and don't pull your punch now!

That's pretty sassy Mudi.

I think my number one and two (I'm feeling sassy, so I'm breakin the rules) are already on the todo list:

1. Can't drag files directly to FTP bookmarks yet (oh yeah and why call them "Favorites"?)

2. Default to single pane mode - I mostly use FTP for remote edits (TextMate). The second pane is a waste of space more than 90% of the time.

But honestly I could never wish you all to hell ;) - I love that you're active in the forums and development, although slow, is happening. My final request is that if you ever scrap development (God forbid) that you would open source this excellent project. Much love, and Long live Forklift!

No storage or sharing of connection data between the transfer mode panels in Connect dialog:

- colleague comes in: check something out on this server
- me: sftp
- he: yes
- me entering servername, username …
No connection
- me: maybe only ftp?
- he: maybe
- me: switching panel while cursing because I have to enter all the s**** again
No connection
- he: oh, it *was* sftp, but I gave you the wrong password
- me: switiching panel back to ftp while cursing because …

When you only get server name, user and password and have to do this several times a week it can drive you nuts. :)

Incomplete (retarded) keyboard navigation & missing shortcuts:
- no way to move file focus with PgUp/Down/Home/End
- no way to copy focused file path into clipboard
- no way to open terminal in current folder
- no way to change sorting order without using a mouse

Moreover...
- no way to open samba / afs / nfs share with Cmd+K
- no way to change permissions on multiple files
- no way to change extended Mac/NFS attributes such as locked, hidden

And finally no way to preserve folder size, it is reset to blank on any operation even totally not affecting its size:
1) moving folder
2) renaming folder
3) manipulating (deleting/moving) other folders/files in the pane
... this makes FL to be quite poor manager for making any kind of cleanup operations based on size sorting.

1) Inability to see and edit "open with" option in Info window

2) Wonky behavior with Amazon S3 uploading: the Activity window remains open and indicates that transfers are still going on when in fact they're finished. This may of course be an S3 issue, in which case ForkLift is that much closer to being perfect.

mudi just loves the sound.

so here's what you can do: Open the ForkLift package in Applications, go to Contents > Resources and delete the MoveToTrash.aif file then restart ForkLift ;)
