Hi,

I switched from PC to mac for 2 years ago and i use Disk Order 3.0 for Mac.

Why, what is bad with the Fork Lift 1.5.3 for Leopard?

1. Each Pane has not his own Controls: Devices-Selection, ".." to upper Dir, Tabs, ...

With ForkLift you have only one Controls for both panes and only at the left side, so you have to move everytime to the left side and then back to the right (left-right, left-right, left-right, ...) That workflow is really bad :) Yes you can use Tabs... but they are on the left side too :-)

2. You can use Archiv Files (ZIP) like a folder, but you can't edit files or copy files within.

3. Fork Lift has no Bottom Command Tabs for: Show, Create, Copy, Move, Delete, Rename, ...

4. Fork Lift is only for Leopard. That is bad too, because not all users have Leopard. I've updated yesterday to Leapord.

What is really good with Fork Lift?

1. Stability, because Disk Order 3.0 crashes sometimes ;)

Hi forker,

here's how I see it.

Number 1 in your list - there are good chances that this will be included in our 2.0 release, which will be all about improving the UI and usability in general.

Number 2 - this is a nice feature, but 1) we feel it is not such an important feature nowadays, at least when compared to the efforts if would require to code; 2) how would you handle this over an FTP or S3 connection?

Number 3 - I have absolutely no idea why ex-TC users request this feature. I've use TC in my time, and never used these, only the keyboard shortcuts, or drag with a mouse. Still, if you are so much used to these, you can simply customize the toolbar to have these buttons under your mouse.

4. ForkLift is also available for Tiger, the 1.2 version (which is the Tiger version) is available on our homepage.

Still, thanks for the praise on stability, and welcome to our forums

3. One of the worst things about Windows is that developers often make sure to have a button for EVERYTHING. That makes most of the buttons useless. The toolbar option is the best way to go- with a very simple default set or core actions.

4. What worked on tiger will always work on tiger, and those users can use that. Don't let it slow the development of a modern application ;)

So yeah- I agree with Csaba this time.

Cheers though, Ed

Thanks for Number 1 ;)
This is the "must have" thing ever for nice workflow and short mouse moves.

2) Some developers need this (COD4 Scripting). The reason: you can edit
all files in the archieve without compress the files again and again for
every single script test :)

3) :D Yes i know... but think about, because so many TC Users came from PC to Mac... and then its good to have these button to feel "you are at home"

4) Fork Lift 1.2 is not 1.5.3 :)

I hope you will release the 2.0 beta fast, because the stability of Fork Lift is good, but without Number 1 features i can't use it
(i need to much time to think about the workflow and not to do what i have to do).

best regards
