Hi ,
I generally use forlift to upload files from home. I almost always have a problem when I am transferring a large number of files or a single large file.
The file upload to around 95 -100% and then get stuck with the progress bar "calculating " and it never completes!.
To be fair , this problem only happens from home i.e a slower up connection. But this happens almost everytime I upload something more than a few tens of MB.
Fortunately forklift does not show this problem from my connection while I am at work ( University) since we probably have a faster UP and down net connection.
This has me quite annoyed , Please can you help me troubleshoot it because forklift is entirely unusable for uploads most of the time for me.
I have also submitted a bug report

Hi,
OK, let's try to troubleshoot this problem. First, I would recommend decreasing the number of concurrent transfers in ForkLift > Preferences > General. Say, set 1 instead of the default 5.
On the same Preferences tab, uncheck Enable preview on non-local volumes, as this could also cause slower or faulty operation.
Let me know if this works, and have a great day

This just happened with a 10.81MB folder transfer from one FTP connection to another. The transfer completed, with the connection speed dwindling during the transfer, and then remained stuck on "Calculating...". Now it's stuck on "Aborting...".

Usually, Calculating "means" no data transfer between the server and your machine. Are you using passive or active mode? Is it a reproducible problem?
I noticed the same problem using ftp...
Sometimes the uploads stops with "calculating" , sometimes the upload ends, but not all files are complete uploded.

This is a real issue, which we managed to reproduce.
What happens is this: when using multi-thread transfers on slow connections, some of the connections may timeout during the operation, and in this case, ForkLift fails to report this. Which leads to an incomplete upload.
We have fixed the problem of ForkLift not reporting these timeouts, and will post it in todays release.
Still, on slow connections, we recommend using a lower number of concurrent connections, maybe even just 1. This is set at ForkLift > Preferences > General > Transfer concurrency

I am still experiencing this issue. I am using 1 connection and have a connection speed of about 50-60 KB/sec.
Also, I have noticed it on files as small as 1-2MB when transferring those files individually but I notice it more consistently on very large files. Any suggestions would be helpful.
note: partial uploads resume ability would be very helpful.

mediafly, could you give us an access to your FTP - we would like to test this. Please send the account info to bugreport at binarynights.
and we do have resume for partial uploads. the dialogue will ask if you want to resume when you copy again. although it doesn't work on folders, only individual files.

Hi, I am using a standard S3 login. I even created a fresh s3 account to test but the same thing happens. I tested with BucketExplorer and it seem to allow me to upload the files just fine. But I much prefer your app so I hope we can resolve these issues.
thanks, Carson

Hi,
I though it was about an FTP server. S3 is entirely different story: S3 does not allow resume for instance, so disregard my earlier comment about resuming.
In any case, we toyed around with S3 a bit, but did not find any issues. We do our backups to S3, and everything seems smooth.
Does anybody else experience problems like this with S3?

I am having the same problem a lot, also on smaller files. Once a file fails reuploading the same file does also not work. Even deleting the incomplete file on the server and than uploading again does not work once a file has failed.
Using the same settings in any other ftp program uploads the file perfectly.
I do upload a lot files (often more than 100 a day) and run into this a few times a week.
